Prayer can change lives and circumstances like nothing else can. What are the keys that unlock its power, that turn prayer from a mere activity into a vital link with God and all his resources? In When God’s People Pray, Jim Cymbala, pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle, shows you and your small group truths about prayer that God has used to turn his own church from a tiny, struggling inner-city congregation into a vital, thriving community of believers who pray with passion, focus, and faith. Featuring teachings by Jim Cymbala and video interviews of ordinary people who have received extraordinary answers to their prayers, these six sessions will help you pray with new confidence.

Hebrews

Women's Group - Hebrews

September 26th - December 12th, 2017

with Jenny Freitas

Come and join us as we study through the book of Hebrews. We will find the secret of Christian progress in the Hebrew epistle. Hebrews is one of the greatest and most important books in the New Testament. Why? To put it simply, it is one of the greatest and most important because it focuses upon Jesus.

Hebrews will exhort, challenge and encourage us as women, wives, mothers, and grandmothers, to walk out our faith in a way that will glorify Him. We will read and discuss a chapter each week. The format will be very casual, although we will begin each night with worship and end in prayer, one for another.

Tuesdays @ 7pm-9pm September 12- December 12 *No meeting November 21st for Thanksgiving

Location: Deanna Sanborn’s Home 550 Formschlag Lane, Penngrove

Jacob

Women's Group - Jacob: Blessed to Be a Blessing

September 28th - November 16th, 2017

with Hartlyn Ower

"He established a testimony in Jacob..." Psalm 78:5

I felt my heart stirred to study and understand the biblical character of Jacob as I read and saw the substantial part he played in Israel's history. The more I have learned the more I have wanted to share what God has shown me. Jacob was many things- he was a son, a brother, a husband, a father. He was a deceiver, a liar, a truth teller and a seeker. He was fearful, cowardly, successful and fruitful. He began riddled with insecurities and ended with supreme confidence. He played favorites, neglected his responsibilities, he loved and worked hard. He carried guilt and regret, was burdened and saddened. He had victories and favor, built alters and places of worship. He buried loved ones, grieved, rejoiced, wept, sang, and traveled miles upon miles in obedience and in fear. He wrestled with God and with men. He was one single man and a company of men. He was blessed and became a blessing. His story is our story and through him all the world would encounter God.

I hope you will join me in studying this man; his life, his legacy and his testimony.

Why do we open our Bibles?  Here is a peak inside the hearts of the authors of "Open Your Bible":

"You see, we used to open our Bibles out of obligation.  Perhaps you do too?  Now we open our Bibles because it feels like coming home. We used to open our Bibles out of fear.  Maybe you know the feeling?  Now we open our Bibles for a fresh breath of the truest freedom we've ever known.  We open our Bibles not just because we feel lost, but because without Him we truly are lost.  We open our Bibles because we need the good news of the gospel-not just on Sundays, but everyday."

God's word is for you and for now! I believe this to be so true for me too! I have been in so many different seasons in life raising 7 children, and most recently caring for and watching the hardest chapter of my life unfold and end with losing my dear husband of 34 years just 6 months ago after an 8 year courageous battle with ALS. I share this to point out that during the last 2 years of this battle, my Bible was the heaviest book on earth to pick up, let alone read! Shortly after my husbands passing I decided to try to attend an evening Bible Study, it was this very study called "Open Your Bible". This study was a great place to find the strength and desire to get back into the word of God, however, the timing was difficult to attend every week, with my grief and other distractions that went along with my new chapter in life. I have always thought that I would love to host this study in my home to start over and finish what the Lord wanted to speak to me through the pages of this book. I am encouraged to find that my Bible is NOT the heaviest book on earth, but a place where my heavy heart can find rest, comfort and hope for my future. Our journey through the first week will be learning that the Bible is true, and we will learn to discern what is true together.
